[Frank]Chapter 1: Brightness

The farm wasn’t doing as bad as my family said it would so that was good. Sometimes the way they talked about my dreams was as if they wanted them to be dead and gone. Winter was in full swing and the farm was just sitting there waiting for the warmth and Sun to come back. I was sitting on my porch enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the snowfall. Then my phone pinged me. NASA and The Local Radio Station had made the announcement that Auroras could possibly be visible in Massachusetts. I was wondering if I'd see them in Hollin where I was with Nicky.  It would be my first time seeing them as I had always lived in Massachusetts.

The snow then started to glow a faint greenish, and shifted to pink and a faint orange glow. It was the Northern Lights and they had arrived earlier than expected. I then heard a popping noise and I saw streaks of blue lightning. The lightning was unlike anything I'd ever seen and I felt the static in the air. My hair was pure frizz and my truck was covered in what I could only fathom as currents of pure electricity. Was I about to die? No way to know for sure but I had to make sure Nicky was ok. I rushed back inside and he was scared but otherwise ok. I then rushed down the stairs to see if I could turn my circuits off. As I reached out to flip the panel I was struck by the most powerful electric surge ever. I woke up and my watch was frozen in place at 4:54PM. I had no idea how long I'd been out but when I walked upstairs it was dark outside. Nicky was an orange fuzz ball when I found him, I brushed him back to his fluffy luxurious self. I walked back outside and all I saw through the raging Blizzard was a faint orange glow in the distance. I took out my car key and tried the ignition: nothing. The engine when I opened the hood was just melted, the wires fused together and the battery itself an acidic pile of crap. I closed my door to try and conserve my heat and made a roaring fire. What happened from what I could gather was that I lost power but to what extent I was unsure.
